__"A lo largo de esta exhibición, vemos que Catherwood representa tanto a ruinas como a indígenas mayas. Este grabado nos da la sensación de un descubrimiento visto a través a los ojos del hombre maya que se adentra en las ruinas. Catherwood recrea la sensación de descubrimiento que experimentaron no sólo los exploradores sino también los indígenas, quienes no habían podido explorar las ruinas. El hombre Maya que señala en dirección opuesta al edificio parece querer compartir su descubrimiento con los demás. A través de la figura de un perro en esta imagen, Catherwood sugiere también la idea de domesticación, tanto de las ruinas antiguas como de los indígenas.
__Se deduce por su reproducción de cada uno de los símbolos iconográficos del edificio, que Catherwood tenía un profundo interés en las ruinas. Al mismo tiempo da la sensación implícita de una civilización perdida y salvaje. El lenguaje corporal de los indígenas, sumado a la jungla salvaje que cubre las ruinas, brinda a los espectadores de la obra de Catherwood la idea de una civilización antigua e indomada".

__"Throughout this exhibition, Catherwood illustrates the Maya ruins along with indigenous people. This print illustrates a sense of discovery, seen by the Maya man walking inside the ruin. Catherwood recreates this sense of discovery not only for the explorers themselves but also for the indigenous people who hadn’t truly explored the ruins. The Maya person who stands and points away from the ruin suggests he wants to communicate his findings with others. By adding a dog to the picture, Catherwood also suggests the idea of domestication, of the ancient ruins and of indigenous people.
